72 People Had to Be Rescued In a Single Day From Rough Surf Off Volusia County

Authorities expect that the rough condition will continue through the week and are warning beachgoers to exercise extra caution while swimming or surfing.

The victim, who was surfing off New Smyrna Beach at just after 10 a. m. , “became submerged in the water and lost consciousness” before he was pulled to shore.

So angry, in fact, that 72 people were rescued from rough surf off Volusia County in a single day.

A 43-year-old surfer from Orlando had to be pulled from the sea by an off-duty lifeguard who was surfing nearby.

The off-duty lifeguard performed CPR on the beach before paramedics arrived on the scene and he was taken to hospital.
