Nolan Sullivan is the Youngest Lensman Among This Year’s Follow the Light Finalists

At the moment, he’s getting his B. S. degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UC Santa Cruz, and he’s also been a bio intern at The Grey Whale Project, and Toyon Research Corporation, since high school. “I help set up observation locations, and I classify/record the number and behavior of marine mammals, and help review data to modify algorithms that detect grey whales using videos from thermal cameras,” Sullivan continues, discussing the details of his internship. “The goal of the project is to understand the health of the grey whale population, prevent damage to whales from large underwater sound sources, and to prevent cargo ships from striking and killing them.
